Task 2: Plan and Prepare
Once the training needs have been identified and prioritized, initiate planning and preparation for the trainings. Identify specific goals and objectives that reflect the needs identified by staff and volunteers. Identify the most appropriate individuals to provide the trainings on the specified topics. In some cases, the most appropriate individual may be a member of the prevention project staff. In other cases, it may be a consultant, a project partner, a researcher, or some other type of specialist.
Since the training needs of prevention project staff often represent core competency topics (such as research design issues for non-researchers), established training programs may meet the needs of program staff. For example, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention supports six Centers for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPTs) that represent six broad regions of the country. The regional CAPTs provide training and technical assistance to the State Incentive Grantees, their community grantees, other States and jurisdictions, and other community organizations. The National CAPT Website address is www.captus.org.
