| Implementation Guide - Step Six: Sustain The Effort |

Publicize Activities and Successes
As described in the previous Step Six, over the life of a prevention project, there will be numerous opportunities to increase the general public’s awareness about the substance use problem being addressed, promote an understanding of the prevention project strategies, and celebrate various project milestones and successes. Promoting the overall project increases the likelihood that people will know about and support the efforts of the project. This can be especially important in relation to decision- and policy-makers, community leaders, and other influential people in the community.
Promotion and publicity efforts should be embedded within the overall project, from beginning to end. For example, press conferences and related publicity efforts can be conducted at the project kickoff, in association with a national news event related to the problem being addressed by the project, and after analyzing project outcomes.
Please review how the case study has worked through Step Six.
