Strategy 5: CREATING "TOBACCO-FREE" ENVIRONMENTS, continued
When implementing policies, local ordinances, and State laws to restrict smoking, it is important to remember the following:
School policies with the greatest potential for changing behavior and norms among youth will prohibit smoking by students and staff, prohibit smoking on school grounds as well as in school buildings, and apply during all school functions.
School policies should be communicated both in writing and orally to school staff, students, and visitors.
School policies should be enforced consistently.
Clean air laws and ordinances with the greatest potential for changing behavior and norms among the general population will include restaurants and private workplaces within the legislation.
