Monthly Peer Events Coming soon: These online chats are designed as forums for community organizers and prevention advocates to share their struggles, successes, and lessons learned as they implement environmental prevention strategies across the United States. Each month, a colleague from the field of environmental substance abuse prevention will be highlighted to discuss his or her efforts and to discuss opportunities and obstacles that others have encountered.
Interview With Nancy Rea
Nancy Rea, the new president of the Maryland Association of Prevention Professionals and
Advocates (MAPPA), has an impressive range of experience in her career as a substance
abuse professional, building on previous experience as an elementary school teacher and
community activist. She has worked extensively on both the state and county level, including
work advocating for and implementing environmental strategies. She was a founding board member
of the Maryland Underage Drinking Prevention Coalition, and she is currently the Health and
Substance Abuse Manager for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. Ms. Rea has
received several special awards and recognition, including the Jackson County Mississippi
Champion for Children Award (2002) and the Emergency Nurses CARE and National Emergency
Nurse Association Certificate of Appreciation (1999).
